First 5k run since I fractured my hip and had emergency surgery in June: completely CRUSHED.
This is actually right around my fastest paces too, even before I was injured. I’m so happy to finally be getting back to my comfortable pace and speed and am really excited that I can start pushing myself a tiny bit further and faster each week now that I know my hip can take it. I’m still taking it really slow but being able to get this far means I’ve been going well so I’m not afraid of moving forward.
I still have some recovering to do - my muscle is still weak and stiff, and my stride is occasionally limpy - but this was my big goal after surgery. I honestly thought I wouldn’t be able to run again so running 5k less than 5 months later is a huge victory for me.
Also, look at my calf muscles coming back! YES! Sadly my scar from surgery is still giant and red; it’s gonna take about a year before it fades since the cut went straight to the bone. Boo.
